This meal occured 13 years ago which should show it's memorable factor. This is how the story goes:
Age: 7
Date: August 1997
Place: Finland
Restaurant: Some seafood place on the top floor of a building
My family was in Finland for our past exchange students wedding. She was very close to our family and had asked us to come sing at her wedding. We were very lucky to be able to do so. This particular evening Susanna, our exchange student, wanted us to experience true Finnish cuisine, which included lots of seafood.
The meal smelled delicious as it cooked! The smell of melting butter surrounded the restaurant. When they brought it, each person had their own wood block full of tiny whole fish.
Being the extremely open minded 7-year-old that I was, I crinkled up my nose and decide that these were definitely going to be gross. But eventually with some coaxing of my Mom I ate one. It was good! In fact I was doing pretty well on my pile when my brother asked if those little orange balls were supposed to be inside of the fish.
Eggs. Fish eggs, inside of the fish. Just where fish eggs should be.
Any progress I was making on my fish pile immediately halted. The same can probably be said for all of the children in my family. My parents tried to get us to keep eating. According to our age we had to eat a certain amount. I think my mom helped me achieve mine, becuase I'm almost certain I didn't eat any after the egg discovering moment.
My sister Jeniel did really well! All of her fish were gone! The children were all very impressed by this. That is untill we discovered her secret: lots of tiny fish shoved into the empty baked potatoe skin on Susanna's plate.
