Kristi threw a barbecue for me in our yard on Sunday: a perfect way to kick off my last few days of D.C. living. She is so nice to me & it was a lot of fun! We had a good turnout! Much more than anticipated and the weather was celebrating with us. Thank you Kristi for the fun, and also for Rick and Elyse for gracing us with their presence as well as their Air Conditioner. It is good to know I will be leaving Kristi in, if not calm spirits, at least liveable temperature conditions.
My last few days. Wow. Three months already? Where did all the time go? I feel like I have said a lot of goodbyes for only having lived 20 years. From this I have concluded that I am the luckiest girl in the world. (except for that idiotic moment on Saturday when I placed my camera on top of the car to take a picture of kristi and I on bikes, and well, I haven't seen it since. Boo.)
I have had a lot of incredible opportunities made possible by generosity from many others. It wouldn't be so sad to say goodbye, if it hadn't been a good experience with good people.
But I am very grateful for the time I have spent here and especially for Kristi. All week this poem that I love, by Dr. Suess, has been skipping through my head. He wrote it right before he died and I think it displays very well how I feel right now. Leave it to Dr. Suess to write a better final D.C. blogpost than I can:
How did it get so late so soon?
Its night before its afternoon.
December is here before its June.
My goodness how the time has flewn.
How did it get so late so soon?
Goodbye world of frenzied politicians, automatic flushing toilets and numerous marbled halls. You sure have been good to me. But I am excited to see home again!
We will miss you! I will miss walking only a few small steps in order to see the back of your beautiful head. Thanks for being an awesome office buddy and cousin. It was most definitely a joy having you here and I hope you come back soon...
ReplyDeleteI'm excited you're coming back, and I'm sure everyone else in town is excited too. What a great experience you've had!
ReplyDeleteThanks for that poem. It sums up my feelings about Buttercup graduating next month PERFECTLY!!
Oh how I miss you... What fun times we enjoyed. I'm realizing how much time has passed as I speak to people and church and realize that they weren't here when you were. Thanks for lifting me up after the semester of doom. What a wonderful time I'll always be grateful for.
