Lilly Ercentile and the gone-terrible poem

Lilly Ercentile, the pottery lilly,
was a little bit daft and ever so silly.
In a puddle she lived, in a dish of clay,
so she wilted and molded but never walked away.

Voila! Happy poem day. This poem was written to my friend Colin, who has now been on his mission for a year! It was meant to be one of those inspirational-you-can-do-it poems and somehow turned out to be about a dying lilly.

Which made me come to realize that this seems to happen a lot with my poem writing. Sometimes I set out to write a great inspirational and happy poem, but generally they end up depressing and juvenile. It doesn't really bother me however, because I will never have to rely on my poem writing abilities to support me. Hurrah! And I know I am not a troubled person despite my depressing poems. Besides, maybe this poem was just what he needed. Nothing like a little lilly dying to cheer you up!

So in honor of Colin, all the bad poets out there and struggling lillies everywhere - This is to you.

  1. nice... Fisher though Collin got home soon - I informed him that that is not accurate at all.

  2. Haha! I'm a huge fan. I think you should create a poetry book with Lily Ercentile as the featured poem.
