This is my funny experience of the week that Sister McKenna said I could share. We were going to contact a referral who lived in this super rich part of the country. {huge, huge houses} We were walking up the driveway when suddenly I spotted a creepily large black dog between the trees and I froze. Sister McKenna didn't notice until he started barking, and she {who is usually not scared of dogs} whipped around and started walking fast. The Dog started running and barking and growling {It was an impressive display of multitasking} so I did the same towards the car. And by that I mean just the running part, not the noises. But I knew the car was locked and the keys were in Sis. McKenna's backpack. I was anticipating hearing his snarling interrupted as he latched onto some part of SIster McKenna and a scream from her, but instead I heard her shout something very different. In fact it started with a Sh and I can't tell you how it ended. Hahahaha. Apparently when she is really frightened it triggers her cussing reflex. It was so drawn out and loud that I couldn't stop laughing and immediately the scariness of the situation left and I could just hold onto the car and laugh. Fortunately for unknown reasons the dog stopped and got calm and did not eat us. So I get to tell you the story today. Seriously though, that dog was like Sirius Black in Snuffles form. {yea for getting in a harry potter reference!}
This week Sister McKenna and I have started to really to study about the atonement together. Just in one week this has been an incredible experience. I guess you never realize how little you understand about something, especially in the gospel, until you start to in depth study it. It has made my view of life, my covenant, taking the sacrament, my responsibility to my family and those I teach change. I think we are both slowly becoming more bold and more confident in our ability to teach with the spirit and believe that people really can change.
I have felt for the first time this week completely guided in giving a tour to a youth group. I know that it was all the spirit that taught me what to say, and I love that experience. It is addicting. I started to understand the importance of boldness and teaching with love and to their needs. Also, Sister McKenna and I felt some powerful promptings as we chose where to tract and also where to stop. We learned the truth behind not being in too much of a hurry to get where you are going.
We taught a man who is so humble. {the same guy we taught in the sacred grove. His wife/the woman we found out he is not married to} was initially our friend, but now is very upset and won't talk to us. But He knows we have been sent to him, because he took the lessons 10 years ago and in several moves over the years he was unable to get rid of his Book of Mormon. He prayed, and when he asked forgiveness of his inadequacies the spirit was so strong and I could feel a portion of the saviors love for him and ability to forgive wrongs. That was humbling for me. We know there are hard changes to come for him, but we are excited to teach him about ways he will find peace and happiness in his life.
That's all for today. Oh life is funny and the roller coaster of emotions on a mission are even better. Hope you are great great great!
love,
Sister A
