tithing and church

January is ending! I cannot believe we are starting the last week of this transfer. The biggest miracle of this week came with a 23 year old less active that we really love. She was baptized about a two years ago and we had met with her twice and she expressed that she wanted to come back to church (which was amazing) but it was a huge step for her that she needed help making. We set goals with her and steps she would take so she felt like it was accomplish-able. But on Thursday she called and said, "Sister L, I'm driving in my car and I have the strongest desire to go to church this Sunday!" then on Saturday she called and told me that tithing was something she had always struggled with and she was going to brink her tithing to church on tomorrow. And she did! She came! It was amazing. It really pricked her heart being there as well to help her have desire to keep other commandments. She has a long hard road ahead of her, but watching her has helped me remember that people can change, and as they have a desire to use the atonement, the Lord will help them and soften their hearts. I am really humbled watching her to see what a strong testimony she has for having been a recent convert and having no family support. I am so grateful for what the gospel can do for her in her life.

This week was good. Really good. I had a very confusing mishap with the scissors. I accidentally {and I am very unsure how this happened} chopped three chunks of my hair off about half an inch next to my head. Haha oh dear. fortunately when my hair is down it is covered and you can't tell. I just can't pull it up now :) What is a mission like without a bad hair cut?

We had a disappointing week when we went to visit our investigator Liz, that we were so excited about. As we were walking up to her house she walked out handed me the Book of Mormon and said, 'You know what? This isn't going to work.' We talked to her and tried to figure out what it was that sparked it. Eventually she softened a little enough to take the Book of Mormon back and say she would call us if she changed her mind and she might have us visit a friend. I was grateful for that. And I was grateful for the member of our ward who had come with us. She was wonderful and talked to Liz a little and I think that helped as well.

So Waterloo = good. Lots of cats and dogs. Certainly more cats and dogs than people. That isn't an exaggeration.

Happy February and upcoming birthdays to Nathan and Emily and Elyse and Kristi and Cayenne and Elaine.... I'm so sorry if I'm missing someone. I think I am. I love you all!
love,
Sister L
