apple of my eye

The highlight of the week is Irene. She is just so cool! We taught her word of wisdom last week and so she stopped smoking and is doing awesome! We found out at one of the lessons that she misunderstood about tea and was still drinking ice tea, she said she could be fine with anything so long as we don't ask her to give up her ice tea. We prayed a lot and on Sunday briefly taught her again the Word of Wisdom right before relief society and she said she would stop drinking tea. When we went to see her yesterday she had a big glass of ice water she was drinking and she was so proud to show us :) She's so cute. It is powerful to me that her sister has been waiting 50 years for any of her family members to be interested in the church at all. This is a huge answer to prayer for her! I know the Lord answers prayers in his own time, and Sister Sennett was very patient.

Teaching Carl is.... sad. I mean, we love Carl, but he is really different from when we first started teaching him and he was on fire. We read the Book of Mormon about baptism with him this week, and the spirit very powerfully bore witness that this was the Savior's gospel. We told him his church did not have the authority, and there were some kind of tense moments in there although we felt we could say all that we did through the spirit. He said he knew it was true but was too old and not willing to leave his church. That was really sad. But! We feel that as he continues to read the Book of Mormon he will be strengthened enough to act more on faith.

I saw a lot of people I knew this week. I took Kevin and Laura Turley and their cute little girls on tour at the Joseph Smith Farm! They are a great family, and I'm excited they moved into the Pittsford ward!!! Pittsford ward is one of my loves. I also saw Stephen's roommates, a girl from I-Comm and I took a group from BYU-Idaho on tour and the guy  dated Sydney's roommate or something and is good friend with Allen. Is Todd engaged? I hear such interesting things sometimes as people wander through. I never quite realize what a missionary I am until things from home come out and I feel totally disconnected with what they are talking about, like that part of my life never existed. It's so strange, but I am grateful I feel that way :)

Our ward is amazing. I think that is what Sister Larsen and I have talked about pretty much all week. We are so grateful for the great bishop, and auxilary and they ward members who really care about each other and want to support each other in their hard times. It is a wonderful thing to see how the gospel can help unite completely different people. I love this are so much and also feel especially grateful for Sister Larsen this week. I love that she loves being a missionary too :)

That's about it. I love this work and the power that comes through study and prayer. Congratulations Letty bug on the baptism!!! And Happy Anniversary to E and W, T and S!
love,
Sister A
