Q: How would your life be different if you had attended BYU or a college near your home?
Well first of all, these pasty little things I call my legs would range closer to pale rather than the transparent they are in all seasons because I would be doing some shorts wearin’.
But other than that I would be very different. Attending BYU – Idaho is a bit like having the church culture and doctrine right in your face. Even though I grew up in Rexburg, this had really irritated me my first semester. But now I really enjoy it. I feel like it forces everything out: anything bad about the culture of the church is laid out in front of you, and you realize that you contribute to it in some way. You can either acknowledge this about yourself and try to change it, or ignore it and increase the problem. I also love this aspect of BYU-Idaho because I feel like it really makes you think about why you believe what you believe. You don’t want to just be part of the crowd, so you search for it and make sure you believe what they are teaching you. And the best part of it for me?
I did find out.
Everything my parents and primary teachers and young woman teachers taught me were true. I don’t believe there is anything more beautiful than discovering for yourself that God loves you and has a plan for everyone. It’s simplicity but mind blowing truth is lovely.
