We were admiring our lovely Christmas tree and reminiscing about Christmas traditions. I told Sydney about our sweet sleeping matchbox mice (who hang from our tree) that we used to ‘wake up’ on Christmas Eve. And by wake up I mean we would find the little gold bell and our snowman bell and ring them and say that the mice woke up for Christmas day. It’s a happy little tradition.
But all Sydney said was, “They kinda creep me out.”
Poor little mice. Good thing they were still asleep...
But along with the mice here are some other things I love about Christmas:
1. My sisters playing “Sleigh Ride” as a piano duet and my Dad playing his mouth trumpet for the horse sound at the end.
2. Eating quiche and the yogurt we get in our stockings on Christmas morning.
3. Trying to wake up my oldest brother early in the morning so we could all march in together (youngest to oldest) to see our stockings.
4. Christmas Eve drive to see the lights and singing songs in the car.
5. Caroling & delivering cheese balls. Who doesn’t love a little caroling? “Angels we have heard on high.”
6. Having all the church meetings talk about the nativity. I love the New Testament.
7. Running around the house in the snow barefoot. This tradition has unfortunately and surprisingly died down.
8. Our gingerbread cookies.
9. Family coming home or going to visit grandparents aunts, uncles and cousins!!
10. Watching Little Women and Nora’s Christmas Gift while cuddling on the couch.
11. Making Christmas gifts for family and friends.
12. Cooking treats.
13. Getting the Strobel’s amazing Cherries in the Snow dessert. Yes, heaven arrives on a piece of tinfoil.
14. Dancing to the Nutcracker, waltzing to The Letterman, singing with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, boogieing to our various Christmas mixes.
15. Playing lots of card games. And along with this, watching Dad tease/complain about Kristi or Jeniel creaming him in Grump.
16. Family snow shoveling parties.
17. The Christmas day family scavenger hunt that results in us doing all of our chores before finding the treasure. And it is complete with Dad’s witty poetry.
18. Sharing beds with sisters. Cozy cozy.
19. The great amount of reading I get to do and not feel guilty about it.
& 20. Everyone feeling happy, stopping by, helping out, loving, sharing, and in short, being more Christlike.
There you have it - 20 reasons to love this season for 20 years of life! It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
That creeped her out?! Yay for mice and other Christmas traditions! Can't wait to see you in 11 days!
