Youthful Frustrations

Remember a childhood experience that upset you. Now, as an adult, write a letter to yourself as a child, putting the problem/experience in perspective.

Dear little Amberlee,

I realize that you aren’t so little being 15 now, but I didn’t know what else to call you…

I know that you/we think it is so unfair to be grounded for THREE MONTHS because we have a C in Math. I know you think it is unfair that you won’t be ungrounded until you get a 100% on a test. I know that you study for this class a lot. I know you go down almost every morning to get help from your teacher and you just can’t seem to grasp trigonometry, BUT I also know that these three months will bring some fun things, and I also know the study habits that you are developing now will help you when you enter the intense world of college.

These months you will get to spend a lot of time with your sister, her husband and their sweet baby. They won’t live here after this year, so this will be a fun opportunity for you to increase your relationship with them. These memories will always be fond to you, and these are people you will always admire.

And also, understand that your parents just want you to get good grades because it will help you later in life and knowing the math you learn and the skills you put into practice are important to understand.

Staying home can be boring, but I promise, three months will pass and then you can have a social life again.

Sincerely,

OLD Amberlee
