This morning started with sister Larsen and I locking ourselves out of our apartment at 6:30 a.m. in our pajamas holding 2 baskets of laundry and without normal shoes on. My thoughts in order of appearance: 'our neighbors already hate us, so would it be that bad to just knock on their door at 6:30 and ask to use their phone?' ' Who would I even call? {the only numbers I have memorized are our current cell phone number, the mission office which wouldn't open until 9 and mom and dad} and then 'I really need to go to the bathroom. It's probably not appropriate to pee in our bushes...' We really didn't have any options since our management office is open once a month, and then the spirit helped me to think smarter, so we realized our apartment is ground level which meant we could just pop our screens out and open the window and go in! Lucky lucky for us! We also know exactly how long it would take for someone to break into our apartment if they wanted to: 50 seconds. So that was fun!
It was an awesome week! We have the most incredible new investigator! Her name is Irene - she is the sister of the woman who spoke to us in church last week about coming to teach. This is about how the lesson went:
"Will you pray to know if the Book of Mormon is true?"
"I already know it's true."
"Will you pray to know Joseph Smith saw God the Father and Jesus Christ?"
"I know that he did, but I will pray again."
"Will you follow the example of Jesus Christ and be baptized by someone holding the priesthood authority of God?"
"Yes! I really want to!"
oh and by the way she had already been reading the Book of Mormon by herself almost every night and is in Jacob. yea! So that was the awesome lesson! She is going to be baptized on August 25 and she is very excited! She is incredible. We really love her.
We also had a woman who requested a Book of Mormon from pageant come to church this week, and sacrament meeting was so good! She loved the baby blessings and the testimonies. I felt it was a blessing to have such a powerful testimony meeting, because Barb and her husband didn't want to take the lessons, or to have us come by again but they said they would come see the services, and I know that that opened her heart to someday learning more. Hopefully sooner than later :) We see her every morning when we are running because she drives a bus route that comes into our apartment complex, so lately she stops and talks to us. She's great.
Carl finally came back home and we met with him. He told us what we worried he would say: he felt God told him it was okay to stay methodist. We had a really big blessing to help us out so we were prepared when he told us. I had been praying about what we could say to him, and at district meeting a missionary shared almost the exact same situation and what they had told the woman. It was exactly what we needed. Carl wants us to come teach still and we are really happy because we feel - and told him - we are certain that in time he will know he needs to be in Christ's church. It was interesting to see though that he didn't have light like he did when he left. We realized it was because he hadn't been reading everyday, and so he couldn't remember those feelings he had been so happy about when he left. It was visible in him.
So that was the week! I sure am happy to get to be in shortsville still!

We went through pageant withdrawls this week, but it was a fun week and we tried to squish in those we need to see in between the sites. We haven't been able to see most of our less active families in about a month and we've seen that take a hit on them. They have been struggling quite a bit. We also got a worrying text from Carl who is still away on vacation. We've been calling him to keep in contact while he's been away and encouraging. He isn't doing well with the word of wisdom and said he has some things he decided on that he needs to talk to us about when he gets back. We have been praying and studying to know how to help him with whatever happens. It's hard when they are far away and you don't feel like you can do much and you just want to help them try to feel the spirit and remember how they had previously felt as they had been doing what was good.
We had a miracle at church this week. A woman in the ward stopped us in the hall and told us she had someone to teach! The woman, who turned out to be her sister, lives with her. When SIster Sennett joined the church 50 years ago her family made fun of her constantly and then eventually they just got to a point of never mentioning it. But lately her sister has started asking her questions and asked her about baptism and also told the neighbor she wanted to stop smoking. She has also been coming to church! We set up an appointment and are excited to meet with her, and she is anxious to start learning! Wow!
Yesterday we worked all day at the Whitmer Farm. I was really surprised on my tour as I walked into the log home that I have walked into hundreds of times before, how strong the spirit felt. It was a tender mercy to remind me that this is where the Savior restored his church and the sacrament was passed for the first time after the Priesthood was restored. It felt stronger and stronger as my group discussed what happened here and as I told them this prophecy by Joseph Smith,
" The standard of Truth has been erected. No unhallowed hand can stop the work from progressing. Persecutions may rage, mobs may combine, armies may assemble, calumny may defame, but the truth of God will go forth boldly, nobly and independent, till it has penetrated every continent, visited every clime, swept every country and sounded in every ear. Till the Purposes of God shall be accomplished and the Great Jehovah shall say, 'The work is done'" I love getting to serve in these sacred sites, and then getting to teach that restored gospel to the people of Shortsville, Manchester, Farmington and Canandaigua. Thank you for your prayers, support, letters and love. I know they help because God answers prayers.
Love you!
