I
was sitting in the office at the Joseph Smith farm watching conference
on the senior couples laptop and waiting for a tour when President
Monson announced the change in missionary age. I haven't been able to
stop thinking about it since!! I was so happy I cried :) There are two
really amazing girls in the Canandaigua ward that are both 19 and want
to serve missions so bad! When they were home from BYU for the summer
they taught with us several times a week, and so instantly we thought
about them.{and I also thought about friends and cousins that this will
effect} One of them is turning in her papers now and putting her
availability as January! I am so so excited for the huge blessing this
is to allow more youth to go on missions -especially sisters. It made me
think about what huge desire I had to go on a mission when I was 19,
and how that desire died for a time, but thankfully returned and I
decided to go. I am so grateful for my mission and also that now the
opportunity to spread the gospel will be more available! yea! yea! yea!
I guess that will also cut down on the number of tours I
take that ask if the only reason I came on a mission was because I
couldn't get married :)
Conference was really
great for me, because it gave even more of a desire to work so hard this
last week, and also it helped me face that I am going home. I have been
pretty upset about this, but conference helped me to see that there are
good things to come and that I can continue to increase my faith and
serve when not on a mission. The lord knows how to teach us things that
we need to hear when we need to hear them.
Irene is doing awesome. We are reading the Book of
Mormon with her. We told her about a new investigator that we had found
earlier that day {his name is Jon, he is really cool and also doesn't
have any knee caps} and she told us to bring her with us to teach him,
"I'll tell him all about the Book of Mormon." She is so cute :) She was
called as a visiting teaching coordinator and is so excited about that
and loves to do her visiting teaching. She is also so proud to show us
her tall cup of ice water that replaced her ice tea every time we come.
We contacted a family we had met earlier and the mom
told us as we were walking up to the door that 2 of her children were
home sick. The daughter said she had a skin virus called 'cellulite'.
Haha thank goodness she didn't go to school!!! I didn't know that was
contagious.... she might be staying home from school for a long time :)
It is going to be a great week! I will probably get to
email a little next week. I love you all! Thanks so much for your
prayers, encouragement, support and love. I am so grateful for the good
family I have.
Love,
Sister L
