Last night I found the little group of young single adults from my congregation that meet on Monday nights near downtown Hamburg. (My hand also found a patch of stinging nettle that was growing outside the church, so that was fun.)
Going to school at BYU-Idaho means that there are tons of young single adults, which is very fun, but also kind of makes it a choosy place as far friends and dating go. Tonight I was reminded that there is something wonderful about small selections. This was the warmest, most inviting group of YSA that I've ever been with. Each of them seemed very different from each other, but they were all friends. I was new, and I couldn't speak their native language, but anytime someone arrived there were hugs all around and an "All is good?" and it didn't matter much to them that I was temporary or American.
They were my friend just for the sake of being my friend, not because there was necessarily any benefit coming to them from being friendly to me.
It would be a much better world if we learned to treat people like that - even when our 'selection' of who to be friends with is very large.
Also, I don't know this person below, but I just like taking pictures of people taking pictures? I could do a whole blog post about it, because I have quite a few pictures of people taking pictures from these adventures I'm having.
