I'm not really sure what to say about this week other than it was really good as we tried to put into practice talking to everyone. Because of our car situation we bought really cheap bikes at goodwill and rode them for the first time. We discovered a few things - 1. they were $10 for a reason, 2. I have never sweat so much in my life as I did when we were biking up that hill in my long skirt and sweater in the freakish 90 degree whether 3. biking in a skirt is funny, and really fun 4. People are much more willing to talk to you if you look silly falling off a bike. It was great! We talked to people we never would have been able to otherwise. We also seemed to have the finding motto 'let's look as helpless as we can when our bikes break down so people come and help us and we can then teach them.' It worked twice surprisingly, but it wasn't intentional. And yes, we were sore the next day, but we felt grateful our butts hurt for the glory of god. I'm not sure I should say that as a missionary...
One of our investigators has the habit of falling off the face of the earth and then getting really excited when we stop by again, so we were able to 'find' her again this week and will hopefully be able to continue forward with that. She is so smart, but I think time is the biggest challenge in this area. Wealthy people sure do a lot of things.
We had a neat miracle moment when we felt prompted to delay stopping by a investigators house until later. When we did go over her brother was there who is a long time friend of the Stake President. They were working with a social worker and were just getting done so as they invited us in and she was leaving, the brother looked at the social worker and said, "I have learned all this bad rep that Mormons get is a load of trash. The whole Christian community could learn a lot about their standards and authenticity." And she said, "So, when they come to the door next I should let them in I guess." We were grateful for the Lord's timing. This is an uncharacteristically short email for me. But this week was really good. I loved Elder Uchtdorf's talk at the Relief Society meeting and am so excited for our investigators to get to watch conference this weekend! President said something to me that I really liked during my interview this week. We were talking about how to teach when you come across those who have become involved in Anti, because it completely drives the spirit out. As we were talking about the Holy Ghost he said, "The Holy Ghost is extremely practical." He will guide us in the way that is most practical and important for the situation. That's so cool.
I love you all! A pinch a punch for the first of the month!
love,
Sister L
