Thu, Dec 1, 2011 Happy December! A pinch and a punch for the first of the month! And still no snow on the ground - one of the greatest gifts of all for missionaries :)
This week we got 2 new investigators who are great - Jessica and Ron. We ran into them one night as we were walking to our truck. They are a sweet couple and I am humbled by their big hearts. Both are so excited to talk about Jesus christ and how they love their bibles. We are adjusting on how to teach them, because we need to do it very very simply and slowly. Last lesson we just taught them about prophets, but it felt good. Ron said the closing prayer and it was one of the most heartfelt prayers I have heard on my mission. They have obviously been hurt very much in their life, but they are an example of being humbled by trials rather than turning away from god.
On sunday, an amazing man, Brother House, was baptised in Seneca lake. The sisters we live with taught him and he was an incredibly prepared person. But he came to accept missionaries teaching him through going to the family history center first, then taking a tour of the Peter Whitmer farm {They are in the same church building} and being so touched he wanted to learn more. When they invited him to baptism, he asked to be baptized where the first members of the church were baptized, which he knew because of his tour at the farm, and usually president says no, but he was given permission. br. But, like any baptism, it was wonderful. He was filled with so much peace. You could see it radiating from his face. Happy happy!
I finished the book of Mormon this week! It was so good. I had decided to pray almost everyday to know again that it was true, and this time as soon as I started reading Moroni 10 my heart started pounding and I felt so peaceful. I love that we can always pray and eventually it will be answered :)
There have been some changes made to our plans. Starting today sisters will NOT work at the sites all through the winter - only on weekends, which means that suddenly we are pretty much full proselyting missionaries. This should be interesting this week to discover what we need to do and how to do it. It also means my preparation day will be this coming monday for the rest of the winter. So... talk to you soon :)
Okay, one more story. On thanksgiving we were about to go home and weekly plan after we couldn't find a member's house that we thought we should go to. We had called, but we just didn't have the miles to go there if she wasn't there. But really felt that someone needed us. I prayed to know who we could go to that needed us right now and the thought came to me that I didn't know the area, so I prayed that He would send the thought to Sister Rivera to know who needed us. 10 seconds later, the cell phone she was holding rang and it was the woman we had been looking for. We went and had a wonderful experience and I know we needed to see her that day. Another reaffirmation that Heavenly Father is very mindful of all his children and their needs.
Waterloo is good. I'm excited to see what miracles will blossom this coming week with much more time in the area. Thank you for all you do! I hear it's been really really cold in Idaho. Which isn't very surprising. But keep warm and safe all the same. I love you!
love,
Sister L
PS I got your package - :D what a fun little package. Thanks so much for doing that. Today the 4 of us excitedly opened the first present to reveal 3 wonderful very desired christmas CD's which we promptly put in and listened to and will be doing that for the next 24 days. We danced around to Nutcracker as we were eating breakfast. It sure added a little extra joy.
