What a happy week! It was one of the happiest in a long time! All weeks are full of miracles, but this week my heart felt especially full and grateful for the experiences I've had on my mission.
After a leadership training on Wednesday, the Marion Sisters and us were eating at the Italian sub place in Canandaigua {where our chapel is} We were about to leave when I made eye contact with a woman and we stared at each other until it clicked to both of us how we knew each other: she was one of my former investigators in Pittsford named Holly, who I loved so much! It was such a happy moment! She didn't realize I'd left Pittsford, but talked to me about her brother who had just died from cancer. The Lord's tender mercies both to me for letting me see her in a place where she was far from home, and for her being able to feel the spirit as I could talk to her briefly about the Plan of Salvation, are incredible. She had stopped answering the sister's phone calls, and she lives so far from that normal area that they don't have the miles to drive out and stop by if she is not there. I hope this will help her allow the sisters to come by again.
There were so many good things about this week! I'm not sure what ones to share. At site meeting they emphasized the importance of referrals and setting goals for referrals. So the next day I set a specific goal, prayed I would receive it, asked every tour I took through who they knew that I could call and tell they were being thought of by their friend and if they would be interested in having missionaries bring them a book, and I received my first referral ever. It is incredible to me that a year out, this is the first one. But it was a miracle! This family was incredible! They were from Utah, had already given 7 in Kirtland and said,'You know, we didn't think about our neighbor before. She might enjoy it." So I got to call their neighbor in Kaysville Utah. It was such a great experience. She opened up and we had a wonderful conversation. She didn't accept missionaries, but it was another positive connection for her and she was so touched her neighbors thought of her on vacation. The Lord is so good to us.
I also took a great group on tour at the Smith farm that are in Kristi's ward, and I thought it was so great that I just 'happened' to be the one who was ready to take the tour. I was very surprised when the ward member walked in and said, 'Wait! Are you THE sister Lovell?" I felt like a celebrity. It was cool.
One last miracle. Around Christmas time, a less active family we were working with in Waterloo had serious domestic problems that resulted in them splitting and we completely lost contact of them, because the phone # was changed. The other day the Elders in our ward said a man had come up to them and told them his name and said he hadn't been to church in four years. When they told me the name I could hardly believe it! It was the brother of this man from Waterloo. We stopped by the house and sure enough the two brothers were living there! It was so great to find him again and he said they both wanted help coming back to church, so we will have the Elders start visiting them.
Is everyone back from the various vacations? I can't keep up with the different directions everyone is in! Hope you are all happy!
love,
Sister A
p.s. When does Cassie get home from her mission?
do you think you could send me sister Baker's address? I want to send a May day card.
