It was a great week full of teaching wonderful people,
taking tours to non members at the sites who had been guided there by the
spirit, breaking Sister Fetuli's bed, and backing the car into the median. So I
will explain a little more.
1. We set a baptismal date with Eddy, who is the boyfriend
of a less active we have been teaching named Pamela. We love them, although
Eddy doesn't speak English well so I am not sure how much he understands. His
main attraction to the gospel initially was that we are all resurrected, and
more specifically he was concerned about animal resurrection. They love their dog
more than anything.
We also taught Doug the restoration. He gets distracted very
easily so we have learned we can't use analogies at all, and although he has
been taught before he thinks the commandments are the doctrine, so we have been
working with him to teach him about the savior and prophets and baptism. I like
teaching him, because it is a constant challenge of trying to discover what way
of teaching is going to connect with him.
2. One of the tours I got to take this week was a young man
from Twin Falls who was in Rochester searching for schools. He came to the
sites, because, after loosing 6 family members {including his parents} in 2
years, he only has 2 friends who have stuck by him and they are LDS. I love the
resources the sites give, because we were at the Joseph Smith Farm and were
walking from the log home down Stafford road to the frame home when he was
talking about loosing his family. I asked him where he thought they were. He
said he didn't know. We were right in front of the temple viewing spot and so I
told him where his parents were and we read part of Alma 40 and talked about
the whole purpose of the temple was that he could see his family again if he
made promises with Heavenly Father. He said he wants to be baptized, but is
working on stopping smoking. I am so grateful for the positive influence his
friends have been to him and excited to follow up with him and see how he is
doing.
3. Well this story is pretty short. Sister Fetuli and I
decided that Tuesday night was the night to have bed Olympics as a
companionship bonding experience. I explained to her what bed olympics are {
pretty much you jump on your bed, do a trick and also try to take a funny
picture when you are in the middle of the air} She wanted me to demonstrate so
I went first. No problem. Then she jumped and there was a great big crack! I
didn't realize that when parents say to not jump on the bed because you could
break it that they were being honest... The board on the bottom of the bed
spring {I think that is what it is called} broke through. It's still
sleep-able, and no harm done. Besides the broken board of course. We told
President when we saw him at site meeting it was his fault for leaving us
together and he just laughed.
4. I was so tired one night when Sister Fetuli was
backing me up in the parking lot of the Joseph Smith Farm. My brain wasn't
really processing anything so instead of looking at where I was going I became
very distracted by three people coming out of the grove and stared at them trying
to figure out if it was President and Sister Christianson. Then there was a
great crunching noise that made them jump, me snap out of my daze and Sister
Fetuli laugh. I backed the car into the cement median. Fortunately there was
just a few scratches, so we drove away with the Christiansons shaking their
heads and my face very very red.
We also were asked to watch the CES fireside this week,
because it was about the sacred grove. They took the clips from it last
transfer, and I really enjoyed it because it was very much like the grove tours
that Bob gives all the sisters. You can see bob in it too trimming down the
little branches. He is now a celebrity with his words of wisdom about the grove
quoted in a CES fireside. You should watch it! I am pretty sure it is lds.org and it is by Elder Jensen.
I'm not sure exactly where everyone is at right now, but it
sounds as if half of the family is in Europe! Wow! Travel safe! Share the
gospel with the people you meet! I love you all and am excited to talk to you
on Mother's day / maybe Saturday? Let me know which one is better!
love,
Sister L
