Hair cut and chihuahua hat, Relapse and recovery

Our week started out exciting last monday night when we had the cops
called on us for the second time in a week. This time because a man
thought we parked in his driveway. He was very upset. I thought he was
going to hit us, but for some reason I couldn't stop giggling.Silly
silly. The cop was really nice though and we invited him to the Hill
Cumorah pageant.

Also I finally got a haircut last preparation day and I guess I didn't
realize just how bad my hair looked, because the woman said: quote"Oh
wow! HOw did your hair get to this point?" and then later on, "What
did someone do to your hair!?" {when she discovered the random chunks
missing in the back. I am at least grateful that I entertained some
people that day, because she had the 4 people working in the salon
that day come over and look. Ah, mission beauty :)

We worked a lot with a less active member this week who is trying to
quite smoking. She has a strong testimony of the gospel, and knows it
is what she wants in her life. She relapsed again this week and I was
so grateful we have recently come in contact with her to let her know
that relapse is okay. That she can and will do this as she relies on
the savior and the program. She really needed to know that. As we've
been going to addiction recovery and been working with a few people on
different types of addictions I have learned just how much Satan tries
to convince anyone that if they mess up once they are worthless and
god thinks less of them. We've had powerful experiences this week as
we testified of the reality of the atonement and the healing that it
can cause not just spiritually and emotionally but physically as well.

The highlight of the week I think was teaching our sweet less active
Maria about tithing. She has so much faith and her heart is just pure.
It takes her a long time to understand things and when we were at
church a week ago she asked us to help her fill out a tithing slip.
She is a 60 year old woman who has no income and lives in a little
room of someone's house. She had brought $90 to pay in tithing,
because she didn't understand the 10% and I wanted to cry because of
the pureness of her heart and her willingness to keep a commandment
even though she didn't quite understand it. We got to teach it to her
the next day and it was a very sweet experience.

Sister Park is officially a NYRochesterMission missionary, because we had a ten
minute discussion one night about which of our less active's pets we
like the least and we discovered we could name them all individually.
The little chihuahua that barks, growls and climbs on my head the
entire lesson won. I'll include a picture. But we love these people,
so we strive to have charity for their pets. Pets are more important
than humans here :)

Happy Saint Patrick's day! Love you!
Sister L
